If the walls of Schenna Castle, built in 1350, could speak, they would probably have plenty to tell. The lord of the castle, who opens the high gates every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and guides you through the magnificent chambers and halls, is well aware of that too. Weapons from six centuries, a picture gallery and the largest private Andreas Hofer collection crown your visit to the castle.

The mausoleum in which Archduke Johann and his family were buried sits next to the parish church on the church hill of Schenna and is one of the first and most beautiful neo-Gothic sacred buildings in South Tyrol. The burial site is made of the red sandstone and granite of the Ifinger. The Archduke's marble sarcophagus is located in the underground burial chapel.

It will catch your eye before you even arrive in Schenna: the castle, built around 1350, which towers high above Meran. Schenna Castle is still inhabited by descendants and can be visited several times a week.

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are home to one of the most beautiful seas of flowers in Europe. Over 200,000 tulips bloom here in spring. But that's not all: 12 hectares and 80 spectacular garden landscapes impress with their explosion of colour. The church hill forms the centre of the village and consists of churches from various eras. The oldest among them is St. Martinskirche from the 12th century. The old parish church was built in the 13th century, followed by the neo-Gothic parish church, which was completed in 1931.
